Who Are We Supposed to Vote for this Year?

The more I hear from McCain the more I am inclined to move to France.

I of course refer to McCain's repeated failure to take the lead on this country meeting its energy needs. The French at least have taken steps in that direction. They have nukes. McCain? He likes nukes, which almost certainly will never be built, but ignores what we already have, oil.

I can not bring myself to believe that he actually means what he says about ANWR and off-shore drilling. The Chinese and Cubans are going to be drilling off our coast but we are not. Is he stupid or just obtuse?

What is it going to take to get something done? Commercial aircraft are sitting parked due to soaring fuel prices. Filling up the SUV is approaching $100. Food prices are soaring in no small part due to rising fuel costs and the galactically stupid investment in "bio-fuels."

I am going to head up to the Santa Cruz Mountains to watch the fire for a little comic relief!

Obama: Begging HRC to Quit

News is that Obama is talking to Hillary!TM about joining the ticket, in an effort to get her to drop out of the race.

Of course, I don't think Obama actually could function with Hillary!TM anywhere in the administration - she and her husband would begin the process of amassing power and undercutting his every action.

Anyway, here's the story:

CNN Says

By Chris Dolmetsch
Enlarge Image/Details

May 23 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign is in formal talks with Senator Barack Obama's campaign about becoming his vice presidential running mate, CNN reported, without citing anyone specific.

The two Democratic campaigns are talking about ways for Clinton, from New York, to drop her bid for president that may include joining the Illinois senator's ticket, CNN reported. Talks are in a ``very preliminary'' stage and are described as ``difficult,'' the network said.

Now, when I saw this story, I immediately connected it to Obama's naive belief that the best way to deal with the threat posed by Iran, North Korea, etc is to chat with them without preconditions. Obama believes that his charm and persuasive arguments will win the day.

If he's having problems getting Hillary!TM to quit a stupid presidential campaign that she has no hope of winning, what type of success does he think he'll have in stopping President Tom from continuing the development of a nuclear weapon and detonating it on Israel?

Just curious....

Obama - Don't Listen To My Wife

Many of us on the Right, concerned about the thoughts and beliefs of the guy who's running for President, thought that the platitudes and soaring rhetoric that Obama doles out each and every minute were insufficient to judge his true character - and thus looked to the beliefs and feelings of those he surrounds himself with. His pastor, who he sought out 20 years ago and to whom he remained close up until a week ago, provided a certain amount of insight - insight into the racist rhetoric of a deranged pastor and his congregation (which included Sen. Obama).

When Brian Ross of ABC News purchased some DVDs of Jeremiah Wright (proudly sold by Trinity United Church) and portions of them were aired, it took Obama a couple of weeks to respond by heading to Philadelphia to give his monumental speech on race. In the speech, he said that Wright had been taken out of context, that we can't understand Wright's words without understanding the black experience, that he couldn't disown Wright anymore than he could disown his white, racist grandmother.

Barry assured us that the snippets and endless clips did not portray the actual character of Jeremiah Wright - until Jeremiah decided to re-iterate his beliefs at the National Press Club and made the mistake of saying that Obama was just a politician who had to distance himself because he's a politician.

Then, Barry had to throw Jeremiah under the bus.

Another person close to Barry which provides some insight into his character is his wife, who clearly has a worldview similar to that of Jeremiah Wright: Whitey's keep moving the bar, I've been ashamed of America until now, You can keep me proud by voting for Barry.

It seems that the cycle has now begun for his wife, Michelle. Barry made this statement to ABC News today:

[...]
The Republicans seem to have come to the same conclusion and a GOP Internet campaign in Tennessee has an ad featuring Michelle Obama's comments during the long Democratic campaign that "for the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country."

Michelle Obama was asked about the ad on "GMA," but her husband said, "Let me just interject on this."

"The GOP, should I be the nominee, I think can say whatever they want to say about me, my track record," Obama said. "I've been in public life for 20 years. I expect them to pore through everything that I've said, every utterance, every statement. And to paint it in the most undesirable light possible. That's what they do."

"But I do want to say this to the GOP. If they think that they're going to try to make Michelle an issue in this campaign, they should be careful. Because that I find unacceptable," he said.

Obama praised his wife's patriotism and said that for Republicans "to try to distort or to play snippets of her remarks in ways that are unflattering to her I think is just low class ..

[...]

I'm sorry, Barry... but, you're the one who's giving her prominent billing in the campaign events. I don't seem to recall anyone saying that we shouldn't discuss the latest, stupid comment that Teresa Heinz-Kerry made. And she wasn't nearly as integral to John Kerry's campaign as Michelle is to yours!

And I won't even bring up the number of attacks that you and your comrades have made against the former president.

Finally, the reason that we have to look to Michelle, Jeremiah, Tony Rezko, and Bill Ayers to find out what you really think is because you have such a minuscule record - from your innumerable "present" votes in Illinois to your rookie season in the US Senate, you haven't taken many stands. You've simply given some good speeches, full of airy platitudes.

So, sorry... but she's fair game. If you don't want her to be discussed, don't let her give speeches on your behalf - or have tighter control over the script.

idiot.

Leadership That Will Make You Believe Sweat

This remark by Obama is just amazing... I hope it's been flagged by the McCain campaign and is ready for mass distribution. (Assuming they don't find this to be "outside the bounds of polite discourse.")

H/T to NRO, this little nugget from Obama's Oregon trip is just hilarious:

He also attacked McCain's plan for a gas tax holiday to cope with rising pump prices, which Clinton supports, as well as his other environmental plans, saying the Republican had consistently opposed fuel efficiency standards.

"For him to come to Oregon as an environmental president, but his big strategy is to do more drilling and to have a gas tax holiday for three months, that's a phony solution," he said.

Pitching his message to Oregon's environmentally-conscious voters, Obama called on the United States to "lead by example" on global warming, and develop new technologies at home which could be exported to developing countries.

"We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK," Obama said.

"That's not leadership. That's not going to happen,
" he added.

I suppose that Obama's idea of leadership is to ask other countries how cool we can have our homes, how much food we can eat, and what kind of car we can drive.

Is he going to ask the Europeans, the Iranians, or the North Koreans for their thoughts on how we can curtail our lifestyles?

When you compare Obama's "leadership" with McCain's, who's actually looking to increasing production of fuels, it's pretty clear who knows how to reduce the price at the pump.

***UPDATE***
Brian points out that Obama's just calling for the US to lead by example... Well, yes... he is. But implicit in this leading by example is the desire for other countries to be "OK" with our lifestyles.

Is it leadership to seek the approval of others on the world stage? And if that's Obama's ultimate goal, how will this desire play itself out in the UN and in his one-on-one discussions with the Iranians?

Curious

So, I'm curious... is THIS the sign that Obama has peaked (as predicted by ARC:Brian - in Dec, 2006)?

I realize that this is Oregon, the heart of tree-hugging, granola-loving, enviro-whacko leftist country. (Or is that hollywood? I get confused...)

But, is there a single state in which McCain (or even President Bush at this point) would see such crowds?

With Obama's rhetoric, his constant refrain that he is the embodiment of what the people want, and the adoring and unquestioning crowds he's receiving, I'm fearful of where this is heading.

And, it'd be one thing if the GOP was fielding someone who could successfully counter Obama's magic - but McCain is truly Bob Dole 2.0.

As Brian would say, though... don't you want the team to win? Then it's time to get with the program. Time to jump on the team and come on in for the big win! (Adapted from Full Metal Jacket - dialogue between Pvt Joker & Pogue Colonel.)

And for those of you who are curious about how you can profit from an Obama victory, here's my investment advice for 2009:

Go Long (Buy):

  • Cheap Scotch Distillers - I will fuel this boom myself
  • Any alternative energy which has zero chance of replacing Coal, Oil, or Nuke, but which costs a ton of money to produce and has secondary ramifications to our economy
  • Teacher's Unions
  • Law Firms
  • Leftist Professors
  • DailyKos.com

Go Short (Sell):
  • Oil companies
  • Nuclear energy
  • Coal
  • Pharmaceutical companies
  • Defense companies
  • Any concern which operates on the basis of making a profit and returning value to shareholders

Uggghhhhh
