The Big Night
So here we are, the culmination of 2 years of campaigning.
Fox News just called VT for Obama and KY for McCain. GA, VA and IN(!) too close to call. I only have to say that if its close in Indiana at the end of the night... Gary, IN will bring it in for Obama, there always the last to report it seems. So close to Chicago too. I wonder how many busses are going across the skyway as we speak.
Follow along in the comments.

And yes..I voted...
WV just called for McCain
15 minutes til lth enext batch of polls close. MO as one of them. Let me go ahead and go out on a limb and say that it will be too close to call... at least initially.
Oh.. and expect IL to be called for... wait for it.... Obmama!
Phewww... SC is called for McCain.. is it a sign of my apprehension that when the graphic first came out I was worried it might be for Obama? I mean South Carolina!?
Ok, Saint Wendeler checking in.... just threw some wings down my gullet and am awaiting the coronation of my Obamessiah!!!!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!!!!!!!!!!
der Architekt doesn't look happy...
I seem to recall saying that the nomination of McCain was Dole 2.0...
and for some reason, I'm getting the same feeling I had when I was sitting in TP's in Columbia, MO in '96, watching the returns with my future (and current) wife.
Hey, Babe!!!
And the big east states all close....
NC too close to call
OH too close to call
VA too close to call
IN STILL to close...
FL too close to call
MO too close to call
and one bright note....
PA is too close to call....
Does anyone else think that Obama ran his entire campaign using the same tactics as the Chewbacca defense from South Park?
And we took it hook, line, and sinker with the focus on Ayers, etc and not enough focus on his actual policy statements (what few stands he took)?
Obama goes to NH.. so some of those NH tie breaker scenarios are out....
Hey Saint... got any green caps with the red stars on them???
Ahh Socialism. It's going to be sooo much fun.
AOL has a good electoral map with county returns....
PA is called by ABC, NBC based on EXIT POLLS?!?!?
Don't they remember 2000, 2004???
FNC calls for PA... 5 minutes after they said they wouldn't since nobody had reported any numbers yet...
Makes me think things aren't very close...
My earlier map is looking better and better..even perhaps.. optimistic.
Left Coast here, reaching for the shaker and wee onions ...
where do I send my wallet? I have this strange feeling that the progressives are drooling over it right now....
Georgia just went McCain according to fox, whooopeee
Sununu and Dole both lost. This could be a VERY ugly evening.
All I have to say is when President Achmidenijad speaks, we listen!
He said, "Reject Bush!" and we voted as if Bush was on the ticket.
GA for McCain.. and more importantly.. Chambliss wins in GA. Only need one more Senate "retention" to keep the Dem's from the magic 60.
Trying to decide the theme for the time we're living in....
Is this the Age of Unreason or the Aristocracy of Pull (from Atlas Shrugged)?
Any other ideas for the idiocy we're about to witness.
First Mo returns
REP 17,864 57.7%
DEM 12,506 40.4%
Too small to mean anything
Best numbers I can get from Va are approximations,
McCain 850k
The One 800k
Va finally loaded,
McCain 846k
The One 801k
Hmm, might pull this one out
Hulshof is losing ... interesting. I always liked Kenny.
fox's numbers are good, they had the Mo number as soon as it posted on sec of state's page. Why should I bother :) numbers still very small.
anybody there, I feel like Britt Hume! Back to you, Saint ....
Sorry, our eyes have been bleeding from reading the idiotic posts over at DU and DailyKos...
can it be that idiotarians like these are the driving force behind the Obamessiah???
Hulsof has lost... Per Fox. I liked him too, but Nixon has the name recognition in this state. And Blunt the mystery man really made that race a gimme for the Dems.
hulsof is toast.... After Nixon's umpteenth statewide race, people felt sorry for the dweeb.
Hulsof was down by 20 points going into today.
Problem with all of these states (VA, MO, OH) is that the votes are so close and the cities - which are always late to report and always heavily democratic - have yet to come in.
Brian's shaking a 'tini... you interested?
Va razor thin lead for McCain 1%
Ohio went to Obama, good night Gracie, it's over
game over... OH has been called for Obama by Fox.
Time for me to break out the cheap scotch and drink it on the dirty linoleum...
Man my map is looking REALLY optimistic now.. I called OH correctly though..
Too bad the new Obama justice dept. won't be investigating ACORN. Heck, he'll probably be appointing them TO the justice department.
Ive now switched to a Martini.
To your health!
Have I used the phrase Bob Dole 2.0 before???
I could swear that I've said that...
I could also swear that I said something about The Surge (TM) was last year's battle and that the 2008 campaign would be decided on the economy.
BTW, is Olbermann having a big-O on camera right now?
Ohio returns ... I'm surprised they called it for Obama. Key precinct voodoo I guess.
McCain, John (R) 49.24% 263,725
Obama, Barack (D) 49.22% 263,601
Not looking good, but Marlboro country is still coming in.
Here's the way it works... GOP starts up early.... and the Dems claw back as the city folk votes come in.... along with some extras just in case.
The fact that the numbers are tied in OH (without Cleveland reporting yet) means that it's over in O-H, OHIO!
Mn sensator
here is one that could really make me sick ...
Republican NORM COLEMAN 36230 37.23
Democratic-Farmer-Labor AL FRANKEN 45224 46.47
Yo Rat, how ya doin'? (My impression of a Comcast commercial)
I'd be doing better if Obama was losing. But I'm afraid he's going to make it. God help this country.
Can I blame Trent Lott somewhere?
Would SOMEONE at FOX SHUT THAT F&*#^$#$ PAGER OFF!!!!
Beep beep beep beep...
Well, it only took the Dems 1 generation of public education to totally @#$% up and dumb-down the electorate.
All Hail Obama!!!!
He's just dreamy
Or am I hearing things?
Va is slipping away
McCain 1,118,572 49.62%
The One 1,111,659 49.31%
Voter and registration fraud, intimidation at the polls with the New Black Panther Party, Republican election judges barred from polling sites...this has to be the most corrupt election since Kennedy stole the 1960 election.
Fox is trying to re-assure me that Obama really is a centrist and won't go too far to the Left.
they have no evidence to support this assertion...
I think perhaps they're trying to caution him not to go too far Left.
It won't work. his associations, his record, and his presidential campaign have been completely Leftist.
Good God and sweet sonny Jesus!!!!

Desert Rat - in case the other guys forgot, Desert Rat was my college roommate and fellow traveler now in Pal Springs.
btw, is this election-thingy still going on?
Brian and I have been spending the past 15 minutes piling sandbags at the front door and positioning ammo around the compound...
Indeed (footnote to Glen)
can you image Al Franken US Senator???
Well, on second thought ...
That's "Palm" Springs. Remember, I know where the bodies are buried, John!
I remember Monterey John and I sitting up in in the early hours of 1968 with a U.S. map coloring in the states for Nixon/Humphrey. I still can't believe Wallace got five states!
I imagine the Clinton years... but so much worse.
What were the carter years like?
any good stock picks? something I can do to hedge my bets?
I suggest Costa Rica as a retirement location.
Our one hope is that they don't get 60 in the Senate
Our one hope is that they don't get 60 in the Senate
Obama just went ahead in VA
My prediction was that there would be a mass emigration out of the US.
As Ireland and the EU somehow become more capitalistic, people will have a longing to return to the "old country."
and I shouldn't have asked what the Carter years were like....
I should've asked what the Hoover/Roosevelt years were like...
Senate is looking safe unless something really horrible happens,
Look at the states that are still undecided, Florida, Ms, Nebraska! Ne-frickin-braska! What has happened here?!
We got both senators in Ms, well at least that's something.
Nightmare!!!

Let the long knives come out in the GOP...
There'll be the blue-blood republicans blaming the loss on Sarah Palin and all of the social conservative, lower income hicks....
and the conservative, lower income hicks will point to the fact that blue-bloods couldn't win the office of dog catcher without social conservatives.
Me? I've already accepted that we've been on the road to serfdom for some time - and that the Barry Hussein Obama presidency is the final nail in the coffin.
Saint, the problem is we forgot we're conservatives. Bush expanded government like FDR on steroids and spent money like a drunken Kennedy. It's time to dig in our heels and remember who we are.
It'll be nice to see Chicago style politics in D.C.
I mean, what other city could out do D.C. in graft, corruption, and political favors?
Only the Windy City!!!
well.... the Saint is checking out...
leaving the safe confines of the compound to venture out into Obama-land.
Brian asks - What's John Stewart going to do for the next 4 years?
Seriously, you can't make fun of Obama... he can't take it.
And what's the point of making fun of politicians in a party that has literally no power?
FYI - Brian's laptop battery, foreshadowing McCain's collapse, failed about 30 minutes ago...
Man, that was an early night ...
ok, made it to my compound, but can't bear to watch any coverage of The One's speech.
i'm checking out.
See you in 2 years!
