The Rovian Conspiracy is Live-blogging

Okay, Liveblog of the first Presidential debate starts now.

Brian & St Wendeler are watching in swing-state of Missouri. Penelope has her loaded 9mm by her side. MontereyJohn is in the land of fruits & nuts, attempting to keep his sanity.

The first comment is that these debates don't matter. Obama doesn't do well in debates; McCain always exceeds expectations.

Objective: Lower the expectations for the Obamessiah

Let the commentary begin!!!

Also, ProteinWisdom, The VodkaPundit, and Ann Althouse are all blogging.

For glowing reviews of the Obamessiah's um's, uhhh's, and ahhh's, see DailyKos, DU, and Firedoglake. Find the links yourself.

Your Co-Conspirator,
ARC: St Wendeler

CNN-HD has punch-counts from the analysts...

So so far, the CNN commentary has said:

1. Historically, debates aren't important...

2. Boy, does McCain really need to win....

Just so we understand the ground rules and all...

St Wendeler said...

Lehrer changes the debate from foreign policy to economics.... wonder if we'll get into foreign policy during the economic debates.

First joke of the night... "I've been around a while..."

We get it. You're old.

Brian said...

Are you in favor of the plan?

Obama: Um. I don't know... But heck its all Bush's fault...

McCain: We need to keep people accountable...

St Wendeler said...

Why is Lehrer yelling at McCain? Does he think he's hard of hearing?

AGE-ISM!!!!

St Wendeler said...

Independents love the earmark talk..... wonder if Obama's vote for the Bridge to Nowhere (over repairing the bridge in New Orleans) will come up.

St Wendeler said...

20 minutes in.... and no foreign policy questions.

Brian said...

Jim Lehrer seems to be ordering McCain around a lot. Is he trying to get McCain's notorious temper up?

St Wendeler said...

health care is apparently a foreign policy issue... 23 min in.

Watching the political analysts punch-count on CNN-HD. Borger hasn't scored anything... did the Ole Miss pre-debate happy hour do her in???

Brian said...

watching this debate reminds me of one thing....

Senators should NOT run for president.. From either party. Sometimes i think they think they are debating in the Senate Dining room over Senate Bean Soup.

The VP debate should be fun....

Brian said...

Borger's buttons must be broken... ;-)

Second part of the debate? Financial bailout again.

For the record: First part? Obama got the first response.. And the last.

Brian said...

Penelope just cocked her 9mm and pointed it at the TV and said to Obama, stop promising Utopia!

St Wendeler said...

I for one welcome my new Obamessiah Overlord!

Obama has just told me that his election will bring heaven on earth.

St Wendeler said...

Question was "What will you have to give up in terms of spending?" and Obama outlined 13 programs that require investment.

Brian said...

Obama using a scalpel is like going into surgery and finding out that the surgeon grafted on a 3rd leg.

Brian said...

"It's no doubt its going to affect our budgets... "

Translation? Heck yeah im going to spend your money!

For

President

(I mean, I'm an engaged political observer and I'm about to fall asleep...)

St Wendeler said...

McCain bulletpoint Re bucking the party line on Beirut?

Independents... lukewarm

Bosnia? they like it.

Kosovo? they like it

Somalia? they retain.

St Wendeler said...

Can we go to commercial?

please?

Brian said...

Obama actually says that Iran is a threat because we invaded Iraq.

So Obama is for the old stalemate approach to foreign policy. If that's not a September 10th approach to foreign policy I don't know what is.

Brian said...

Line of the night.. "I dont even have a seal yet"

Brian said...

"Oh... Please...."

McCain's finding his own at the end here.

St Wendeler said...

Odds that Kissinger will have an Op-Ed in the WSJ tomorrow, dissing Obama as dangerous?

it's already written, I'm sure.

On a totally different note, Obama's uhh's seem to be under control tonight...

instead of 10% of his words being uhhh's, he's only hitting about 5%.

Brian said...

There still talking, but the wrap-up can be written already...

There was no knockouts. McCain landed some body blows. Obama ducked and weaved appropriately. As close to a draw in a debate in a long time.

Nobody lost.. But nobody won either...

Not very exciting for sure.

Oh. Jim Lehrer? B+
