Democratic Response to Bush's Speech

With the hysterical response to Bush's speech by all the usual suspects yesterday I could not help but think, well, if the shoe fits, wear it.

Why would one come unglued when the President brings up the subject of appeasement and does not even mention your name? Maybe they realize that what the President is saying applies fully to them and it makes them a wee bit uncomfortable? Could be. The Democratic response was laughable and pathetic at the same time.

But then I got a bit uncomfortable. Chris Mathews, of all people, made a very good point. What did Chamberlain do wrong in 1938 Mathews asked rhetorically.

Was it wrong or stupid to talk to Hitler? Or was it wrong or stupid to give away half of Czechoslovakia in exchange for "peace in our times"? Obviously it was the latter.

A point worth pondering.

In the mean time lets enjoy the Democrats twisting themselves into a knot.

You and I had the same reaction, "If the shoe fits..." The simple fact is the Democrats do preach appeasement of the most vicious of regimes.

It was both. See, meeting by heads of state to "talk" sets up the expectation for something to happen. So called progress. Otherwise its a failure.

Politicians need the Chamberlain moment on the tarmac, to assure the public that the man in office is doing something.

Talking to Hitler wasn't going to accomplish anything. He was not going to curtail his plans whether Chamberlain met with him or not. So why meet at all?

Bush or Obama (or McCain) meeting with Hamas isn't going to change the dynamic in Israel.

Because you show up and tell the S.O.B. that if he invades Czechoslovakia you are going to kick his ass.

Of course, When Hitler invaded Poland a year later, the Brits and French did declare war and then did precisely nothing setting themselves up for the destruction of France in 1940.

Speak softly and carry a BIG stick.
