Mrs. Edwards - Presidential Candidate?

From Politico (a great source for conventional wisdom on all things politics):

A Sister Souljah moment?

Not sure it's really meant that way, but in any case, Elizabeth Edwards makes hers the first campaign to directly criticize's "General Betray Us" ad, breaking with the Democrats' strategy of, basically, ignoring it.
“Someone who’s spent their life in the military doesn’t deserve ‘General Betray Us,’” said Edwards, wife of Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards.
By Ben Smith 12:39 PM

Is it just me or does it seem like each and every week since John Edwards announced, his wife has been criticizing someone.

And, is it just me, or did say that Elizabeth Edwards is campaigning for something?

Imagining how this will play out if Wonder-Boy gets the nod by the American people....
President Edwards: Mr. Achmindenadjad...errr, President Tom. I want to get really stern with you over that nuclear program you've got there.... but, I'm too much of a coward.

Here, talk to my wife!

Just saying... it's not a sister souljah moment if the candidate himself isn't saying the words!

Proof that the Dems don't understand politics

It can all be summed up in the statement of Tom Lantos, (D-CA) from the hearing with General Petraeus. Lantos essentially said that no matter the statistics, charts, or facts, he didn't believe any of it and that it's time to pull out of Iraq wholesale - regardless of the consequences. (Still trying to locate the transcript with his statement.)

Now, this isn't smart politically, since it's exactly what those of us on the Right expected. But it's also not smart politically because those in the middle will quickly recognize that the Dems do not care about the facts - because they are so invested in defeat.

The best way for the Dems to have played the Petraeus report was not for them to start smearing his character 1 month in advance of the report and then to say (before he even had a chance to open his mouth) that they didn' care what he said.

No, if they truly wanted to end the war and succeed politically at the same time, they should've demonstrated their confidence in the man and their hope that he provides a glowing report to the Congress. Then, when his report had negatives in it (which it surely would), they could've acted shocked and alarmed that things weren't going as well as they had hoped - prompting them to pull out.

Instead, they showed their hand and everyone - everyone - knew that regardless of the facts, they were going to attack the General and the Surge. And since they showed their hand, they were shown to be the political opportunists that they are.

The Dems need a Rovian Conspiracy on their side...

*** UPDATE ***
I forgot to mention when I posted this that while the Dems don't know what they're doing politically, they do appear to follow the political advice from some quarters - unfortunately, it's the advice from our enemies.

I mean, the Dems really stiffened their spine on withdrawing from Iraq, just after Osama chided the Dems for not having the courage to end the war:

"People of America: the world is following your news in regards to your invasion of Iraq, for people have recently come to know that, after several years of the tragedies of this war, the vast majority of you want it stopped. Thus, you elected the Democratic Party for this purpose, but the Democrats haven't made a move worth mentioning. On the contrary, they continue to agree to the spending of tens of billions to continue the killing and war there, which has led to the vast majority of you being afflicted with disappointment."

Of course, he goes on to recite many of the fundamental beliefs of "progressives" here in Amerikkka, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I mean, when Osama sounds like your base, you might get confused and think he's one of your constituents.
