Another Rovian Conspiracy: Osama's Dead

He's ceased to be:

French newspaper says Saudis believe bin Laden dead
Sep 23 6:38 AM US/Eastern

A French newspaper published what it said was a report by the country's intelligence services that said Saudi Arabia believes Osama bin Laden died of typhoid in Pakistan this month.

France's foreign intelligence service, the DGSE, refused to confirm the substance of the report, and no immediate official reaction was forthcoming from Saudi officials Saturday.

But European and Pakistani officials tracking bin Laden's whereabouts told AFP, on condition of anonymity, that the report could not be seen as reliable.

Often rumoured to be dead in the past -- only to appear later in audio or video recordings -- the leader of the Al-Qaeda terror network was believed to have taken refuge on the border region between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Previous reported rumours have said that he suffered from a kidney disorder and was in poor health.

The French regional newspaper l'Est Republicain published what it said was a DGSE report dated September 21.

"According to a usually reliable source, the Saudi security services are now convinced that Osama bin Laden is dead," the DGSE report quoted by the newspaper said.

The only thing I have to say is a criticism to The Architect and my Grueppenfuehrer:

WE WEREN'T SUPPOSED TO GIVE HIM THE DEADLY INJECTION UNTIL LATE OCTOBER!!! WHAT DID OUR OPERATIVES IN PAKISTAN NOT UNDERSTAND?!?!

Ace of Spades puts the pieces together of this Rovian Conspiracy... and Tom Maguire at Just One Minute thinks it might be legit, but urges caution given the number of similar reports over the years.

I'm confused... yes, according to the Rovian plot, OBL was supposed to be offed this fall, but this is about a month early! Perhaps this is some counter-plot by the Dems to get OBL news out of the press before November? (Nah... they're not that bright...)

US cannot confirm bin Laden death report -official

WASHINGTON, Sept 23 (Reuters) - The U.S. government is unable to confirm a French newspaper report that al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden is believed to have died last month in Pakistan, a U.S. counterterrorism official said on Saturday.

"We cannot confirm the account," said the official, who declined to be identified because he was not authorized to speak publicly about the issue. "It's quite possible (that) there was some talk of this, but in terms of being able to confirm this, that I can't do."

The French regional daily L'Est Republicain reported that, according to a French secret service report, Saudi Arabia was convinced that bin Laden died of typhoid in Pakistan in late August. The French government has said it could not confirm the report and would investigate the intelligence leak.

The U.S. State Department had no immediate comment and was looking into the reports.

GatewayPundit is also covering and links to this story which states that Pakistan was unaware of his demise and has not been notified:
Pakistani officials doubt Osama death report

Pakistan has received no information from any foreign government that would corroborate a French newspaper report on Saturday that al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden died of typhoid in Pakistan, a senior government official said.

"No government has shared any such information with us so far, which is the normal thing to do under such circumstances," the official, who has close knowledge of intelligence matters, said on condition of anonymity.

A senior official in Pakistan's Interior Ministry also said: "We have no information about Osama's death."

And was this actually Osama's funeral?

Stop the ACLU
has a good roundup, as well as a recent photo of Osama.
