ARC's 1st Law: As a "progressive" online discussion grows longer, the probability of a nefarious reference to Karl Rove approaches one

Go Steelers!!!

Well, I'm not able to enjoy SuperBowl XL with my friends & family... I'm on a Rovian assignment in one of the Red States this time... so, I'm sitting in a decent hotel room, watching the game on a 26" Tv.

And I have to say that I'd be happy with either team winning this year. However, I always have to side with my favorite AFC team, the Steelers. I was rooting for the Colts in the AFC this year, primarily so Dungy, Peyton, & Harrison could finally get the win. But, since they weren't able to make it, the Steelers are my pick.

The only reason that I'd root for Seattle is because Seattle has never been to the game. Of course, Holmgren already has a ring... so, I'm rooting for Steelers coach Cowher to finally crack a smile. (And besides, Seattle will always be an AFC team to me...)

Oh, and you know that Rendell is ticked that the Steelers made the big game... nothing like Lynn Swann being able to rely on some Steelers magic come November.

I would create a separate post for this, but check out this comment to my post about Iran getting nukes and Bush's multi-lateral approach. I sure hope it was a joke.

*** UPDATE ***
Apparently, I'm liveblogging the SuperBowl. (ahh, the joys of travel.)

Bittersweet Symphony????

What kind of intro music is that?

Only someone from Seattle would approve that...

St Wendeler said...

yes, I appear to be liveblogging the superbowl....

Seattle - Where's Alexander?

Commercials - Bud Light hide & seek - A

Burger King - D, but liked the finish...

St Wendeler said...

2 items:

1 - It should be 7-0 Seahawks after the DJ catch... not much of a pushoff in my eyes.

2 - Seattle's key play is Alexander to the left.... the left side of their o-line is unbelievable and it's been their money play all year. It's not happening tonight (yet).

both teams seem nervous... might not get really going until Q2

Escalade ad clearly demonstrates why GM and other American car companies are going down the tubes.

Bud Light Streaker was great....

CareerBuilder.com (the monkeys) was great (as always)

St Wendeler said...

Smart marketing by Dove, since Dads/boys don't make a lot of the purchasing decisions regarding soap.

yes, it's a gender construct, but it's the reality of marketing that Dove is displaying here...

I won't get into the self-esteem issue... for boys or for girls.

St Wendeler said...

Speaking of another American industry which is out of touch with the market (besides the car industry)...

the movie ads suck.

Brian said...

Your missing some good Chili.. .mmmmm

Some of my thoughts to date:

1. Streaker commercial was very good. Probably the best so far.
2. The budweiser "tackle" commercial was seen as "over the line" by some of the women watching the game with me.
3. Since when is: catch, spin, 3 steps, shift to under the arm, drop the ball, not a fumble?
4. ESPN ad was stupid....

5. Since when do movie ads ever look good on tv?

St Wendeler said...

good point RE ESPN... I thought it was just understood and didn't require any comment.

RE the Mich Ultra tackle... what was over the top with that? she got him back with a late hit.

St Wendeler said...

If they thought the tackle was over the top.......

watching the godaddy commercial right now.

St Wendeler said...

holy crap...

Poseidon adventure?!?!

time to short the hollywood index.

Fusion commercial sucks... and I'm a Mach 3 guy. But, then again... I don't think any razor ad should be on this day.

Brian said...

Actually they didnt have a problem with the go daddy commercial. I dont think its the sexiness, i think it was the violence.....

The late hit was "just gratuitous". (I'm repeating here).

I thought it was pretty good, but then im a neocon.

Other issues:
They are remaking the Poseidon Adventure? Um. Why? Who's playing Shelly Winter's part?

No, Brian... you're just a beer drinker.

commercials for Mobile phone /multi-function devices stink...

and why would I want to download the Stones 1/2 time show (which will probably be lipsynched) to my phone?

why?

(UPDATE - IT'S NOT LIPSYNCHED.... ALTHOUGH IT SHOULD BE!!!!!)

Penelope made an observation.

She can't believe that the members of the Rolling Stones can stay up this late.

St Wendeler said...

anti-bush song?

If it doesn't show, the kossacks, Duers, & the Raw Story will be claiming that a chill wind is blowing over superbowl half-time shows.

(and no, when I say "chill wind" I'm not talking about the halftime show from 2004.)

Some other quotes heard in the room....

"I'm sorry, but thats a sock stuffed in his pants"

"Don't you think he should cut his hair different than he did when he was 22?"

Rock and Roll is definetely not the strong suit around hear....

St Wendeler said...

Watching the Stones always reminds me of This Is Spinal Tap, when Derek Smalls (aka Harry Shearer) talks about playing when they're 75 years old and how that would just be sad.

wanna talk about a band that rocked? Spinal Tap ROCKED!!! in the movie AND live...

I remember tufnel's solo with the tennis balls to this day...

;-)

Brian said...

The flab underneath Mick Jagger's arm is truly disgusting....

Quote:
"He's got white underarm hair...."

St Wendeler said...

Can I go to sprint.com and download the ORIGINAL stones versions of these songs? because "I can't get No" now just sounds like it's being sung by some viagra-overdosed freak tonight...

Brian said...

And spinal tap didn't use socks.. Those were "armidillo's in [their] trousers... Quite frightening."

St Wendeler said...

please... dear God... no nipple ring this year...

or ring around some other genitalia....

please...

St Wendeler said...

I originally switched to Fox, but they chickened out with a rerun Simpsons episode...

so sad....

St Wendeler said...

Admittedly, the game should be 14-7, Steelers...

I think Seattle will come back, but the steelers will edge out by 10

St Wendeler said...

again...

Cell phone commercials suck

pretty bad when I remember the sharpie commercial more than a tech. ad

St Wendeler said...

There's the Alexander Left call...

Seattle will need more of that.

St Wendeler said...

Anheuser-Busch....

does anything else need to be said? If only they would stop cannibalizing their own brands...

St Wendeler said...

H3 ad? with the monsters? no

St Wendeler said...

uh-oh....

family guy is on...

losing interest in super... what?

St Wendeler said...

Ok, I'm rooting for the steelers...

but the 'hawks are getting robbed. Hasselbeck on below the knees? wasn't even close!

St Wendeler said...

Congrats to the Steelers...

frankly, this was one of the most anti-climatic Super Bowls I've ever witnessed...

Remember those exciting Rams super bowls?
