Liveblogging the Presidential Address Tonight
This speech will do two things:
- Celebrate the recent, successful elections in Iraq.
Bitch-slap rebut the Dems and the NYTimes for damaging our national security and our efforts in the War On Terror

At least, I would include the 2 item if I was giving the address...
The address will be live-blogged here... Co-Conspirators, set phasers to Fox News Channel
Your Co-Conspirator,
ARC: St Wendeler

8:24 EST - MontereyJohn signed on
Roger... Co-Conspirator St Wendeler here.
Any wagers RE a frontal assault on the Dems' strategery?
I say there's a 75% chance of a b!tch slap.
Go Bears!!!!
Wait, wrong channel... Just a second.
Good start, he fairly stated the history of this war and the rationale for it.
Nice that he starts off with the rebuttal of the idiotic claims of the Left. I like the folksy style (as do the "Security Moms").
I like how he goes back to the root problem of the differences in the perceptions of the WOT. It's clear that the Left just doesn't get the threat that we're facing.
(The Dems will counter with a "took our eye off the ball by invading Iraq". Unfortunately, that's soooo 2003.)
Great line:
We do not create terrorists by fighting the terrorists....
Glad that he mentioned friendly regimes in Iraq & Afghanistan to assits us in the WOT.
Never mentioned is the fact that Iran sits between Iraq & Afghanistan. It seems that some don't get the "strategery" of establishing friendly regimes in these two countries.
Dems will counter with "HALLIBURTON!!!"
I do not like characterizing the war a one against terrorists. It's like calling it a war against infantry. It's a war against militant Islam. Call it what it is for crying out loud.
Yes! Celebrate the election!
war against militant islam gets translated as "onward christian soldier"... thats why he can't say "war against militant islam.
Wish he would've said "strategery" just once....
It IS a war against militant Islam. Political correctness does not change it. We were not at war against the German armor, we were at war against Nazi Germany.
Did he just mention the optimism of the Iraqi people????
huh?!?
the Dems will counter with "HALLIBURTON!!! NO BLOOD FOR OIL!!!"
Love that he points out the partisanship behind the anti-Americanism, err... unpatriotic, err... defeatism of the Left.
Where's the b*tch slap?
"retreat before victory... dishonor..."
Damn you Chimpy McHitlerBurton! Why are you bringing Murtha into this. Oh wait you didn't?
A call to loyalty to country would be appropriate, i.e. directed at the NYT and Dems... and here it comes, thank God.
Great close!
"I will make decisions on troop levels..."
Translated from Washingtonian speechifyin' into Texan:
"Hey, Dems - go @#&$ yourself"
My question s this:
Where has this speech been???? Since last year's election, he's been allowing the MSM and their political arm (Dem Party) to take snippets and editoralize everything he says.
As Reagan and Roosevelt found out, there's a reason for Presidential addresses and fireside talks. I don't think his slide in approval would've occurred had he made more of an effort such as this.
(Is this the start of the change in the "narrative" theory, as described by William Safire?)
I'm still here waiting for the analysis from FNC... Anyone covering other channels?
Would love to have heard something about you Copperhead SOBs, but that's just me :)
Other channels, what channels? :)
Mort Kondracke confirms the fireside chat message.
Oh, wait.... Family guy on Fox, Christmas Blessing on CBS, National Lampoon's Christmas on NBC...Desperate Housewives on ABC... hmmmm
Olberman on MSNBC... what a trainwreck
Hmm.. Good speech. A-/B+ It reads better than him speaking it, but thats pretty typical
Is the Newsweak "bubble" story the reason for this address?
previous comment RE Olberman
Agree totally about the delivery, Brian. W can't read a speech to save his life. However, I said the same thing about Ronaldus Magnus.
I agree... a/b. Should've been delivered earlier and more frequently.
Kondrake agrees that Dems will use the "Halliburton" angle RE Iraq War not being part of War On Terror... (to paraphrase)
;-)
Bush should realize that while speeches before the troops, AEI, and appropriate audiences are fine, but nothing reaches the people like a speec delivered directly to them.
Allowing the MSM to mischaracterize his speeches has been killing him...
Just went over to Keith Odor-man. As Bugs Bunny would have said, "What a maroon."
CNN - oh boy, Biden is on there taking about the NSA wire taps. It's like the President never spoke. These guys are ridiculous.
By the by, this wire tap thing is not good. But I'm not going to let Biden distract me tonight. There's enough time for that tomorrow.
Well, thanks Co-Conspirators for your thoughts. Sorry that the Desert Rat didn't get an invite until it was too late...
BTW, Keith Olberman is such a tool.
Protesters outside the WH being picked up in the background of the MSNBC's coverage by Kelly O'Donnell. They really need to work on their slogans.
Poor lefties... Olberman points out the shouting of the protesters. O'Donnell mentions that it's consistent with our principles of free speech.
(Wait, I thought we lived in a theocratic, fascistic state where Big Brother is targeting our every move?)
Howard Fineman on MSNBC now... Olberman wondering why there isn't a timeline.
(Keith - I think the president addressed that pretty clearly... he's not going to establish a timeline.)
Night Chet.
Good night David.
(You guys are to young to remember that.)
Biden now extolling his virtues on MSNBC.
(This guy has NO SHOT at 2008... someone should tell him before he goes too far)
Is Biden drunk? (and not drunk with power, but inebriated...)
btw, previous post was about Biden extolling his own virtues.
Here's the text of the speech
Check out NRO's Corner for their thoughts as well.
